Only boys who save their pennies, make my rainy day…
2009.01.28
One of the first music videos I can remember watching as a child was the Material Girl video. Madonna was going through her Marilyn Monroe phase and was inspired by the brilliant film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Madonna has had many incarnations since, but the Material Girl is my favourite. I remember the pink dress and arm length gloves vividly, the men pandering to her every whim, the diamonds – I loved it. Which is why I am very excited at the prospect of the Simply Madonna Exhibition at the Truman Brewery in East London. It is described as the largest private collection of Madonna’s costumes, spanning her 25 year career. The pink Material Girl dress will be there as well as the Evita wedding dress and the black and gold Open Your Heart bustier. I plan on dragging my boyfriend to the show – if he loves me he’ll go!
The Exhibition is showing between the 21st February to the 22nd March 09.
