Paris Couture Week

Impossibly glamorous, sumptuous fabrics, walking art – it can only be Paris Couture week.
Glorious Channel has already shown at the Grand Palais atrium. Models walked out of giant perfume bottles wearing lots of lace, chiffon and sparkle. Dresses which glittered in gold and sliver, were short at the front, with long trains at the back. Necklines were kept high with the focus of attention on the shoulders and back.
I was glad to see the classic monochrome palette scattered about, combined with lots of black lace, from over the elbow gloves to tights. This has been noted for winter – an easy way to update last sessions look.
Channel Couture
There has also been a bitter sweet element to Paris Couture week. Despite having everything against him, Christian Lacroix showed today, determined to go out with a bang having gone into administration in May. The Lacroix label is the first big fashion house to fall foul to the current economic climate. For what must have been a very emotional show for Christian, the line was luxurious and ornate. A triumph, which sadly, may never get to be produced.

Channel is probably one of my all time favorites, mainly because it maintains its look and style regardless of trends or decade revives. Another noteworthy thing about Channel is despite the fact they use the gold, beige, off white, and black colors repetitively, their styles differ so greatly that each piece is a unique and custom design on the model. I’m amazed by their creativity when color is taken out of the picture!
What did anyone else think of Couture Week in Paris? Any good finds?

I totally agree with you Isabella – it is amazing how Channel manage to be both young and fresh yet timeless.
Someone else worth a mention was Stephen Jones, who showed some beautiful hats at the Dior show. They just topped off the beautifully tailored 50s styled suits. Gorgeous.

Absolutely stunning. Lace is really in at the moment, I wonder if it is possible to find a cheap version for the high street… I’d have to tame it down a bit though, its a bit too bold for me
