Giles Deacon takes to the pret-a-porter stage

2009.10.08

Award winning British designer Giles Deacon showed his collection on the pret-a-porter stage today as Paris Fashion Week came to a close. Having been awarded the prestigious French ANDAM prize in June, Deacon had to forsake London Fashion Week for a trip to Paris and over 100,000 euro!

The show began with style icon Daphne Guinness strutting down the runway complete with a furry arachnid friend nestled in her bust and so the theme continued through the rest of the show. Dresses embroidered with yet more spiders and dinosaur shaped bags – the triceratops was a big hit for me -made for a light hearted show, quite far removed from the more mature style that he has been associated with. Deacon later confessed to having a fascination with spiders, one that this writer doesn’t share, especially when they decide that they’d like to share a bath.

We wait on tenter hooks to see which path Giles Deacon takes next. Somewhere more cuddly we hope!

Giles Deacon graduated from London’s Saint Martins in 1992, going on to work as a designer for Bottega Veneta and the Gucci Group presenting his first collection in February 2004. Since Giles’ launch in 2003, his labels have been carried by some of the most prestigious retailers in the world, his runway shows have always been a hit at London Fashion Week and he’s notched up some celebrated awards along the way including English Designer of the Year 2006.
