Lady Gaga for Vogue Hommes Japan
2010.09.07
If this alternative cover for Vogue Hommes Japan is anything to go by, I’m thinking Lady Gaga isn’t a vegetarian! The controversial singer appears in the September issue of Men’s Vogue Japan wearing a raw meat dress held together with string – the image has been made available as a poster in the issue.
The photograph, which was taken by photographer Terry Richardson and styled by Nicola Formichetti, is causing a stir. Animal rights charity PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) have been provoked into providing a response; PETA’s President, Ingrid Newkirk, told the Daily News:
“Oh, Lady Gaga’s job is to do outlandish things, and this certainly qualifies as outlandish because meat is something you want to avoid putting on or in your body,”
“No matter how beautifully it is presented, flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a tortured animal…Meat represents bloody violence and suffering, so if that’s the look they were going for—they achieved it.”
The image doesn’t really offend me but then again I’m a meat eater – it just makes me hungry! The actual Vogue Homme Japan cover features Gaga’s male alter ego, Jo Calderone.
Hmmm….I’m not too sure about Jo’s look, a little too bedraggled for my tastes.
