A Winter coat is not just something to keep you warm when the chill sets in but also a statement piece that can update and modernise a lacklustre winter wardrobe. The key Winter Coat trends for 2010 include Military Coats, Fur Coats, Capes and Aviator jackets.
Military coats are a winter staple, mainly because the style has such a flattering silhouette. This seasons styles are sleeker and paired down in comparison to previous seasons; last year military coats were waist length but longer versions were seen on the 2010 Autumn/Winter shows in gorgeous Olive and Navy.
Fur was everywhere at the Autumn/Winter 2010 shows, personally I prefer faux fur, as was seen head-to-toe on the Chanel models. Faux Fur coats ranged from mid-length to long and shaggy, very rock and roll.
The Cape always manages to look ultra sophisticated despite being, in essence, the equivalent of going outside with a blanket wrapped round you. That’s probably part of the Cape’s appeal – super chic yet super comfy. This season, Capes ranged from cropped, seen at YSL, to mid-calf length, seen at Alexander Wang. Capes are perfect with chunky knits as they skim beautifully over the top of them – wear with tailored trousers and wedges.
The Aviator jacket is a hard working jacket, looking fab in leather and making a welcome alternative to the biker jacket. They also look fantastic in shearling – one of the biggest Autumn/Winter 2010 trends. The Aviator jacket toughens up pretty dresses and looks great with a maxi winter dress.

I like the Aviator Jacket. I love its color and its style. It is something new to me.

i’m not a fan of military coats in general. but I am loving the aviator jacket!
