Being known as a “commercial” is the kiss of death for any model. Even supermodels it would seem aren’t immune to this snobbishness. Karl Lagerfeld has recently been quoted as saying “I don’t know Heidi Klum. She was never known in France. Claudia Schiffer also doesn’t know who she is.”

Only the edgiest and strongest models get to walk high fashion runways and rock high end, editorial magazines. So seeing Miranda Kerr, the Victoria Secrets model, walk the Balenciaga runway a few weeks ago at Paris Fashion week was something of a shock. Victoria Secrets is as commercial as they come, attracting a large male fanbase. Miranda did however look amazing for Balenciaga and is continuing the transition between being a commercial model and editorial model quite successfully if the photos from November’s issue of V magazine is anything to go by.

Dressed provocatively in Proenza Schouler, Dolce and Gabanna, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent and Miu Miu, the ‘Pin Me Up, Pin Me Down’ shoot also features Ana Beatriz Barros, a fellow Victoria Secrets model, as postmodern pin up girls. The photos were taken by Willy Vanderperre and styled by Olivier Rizzo.
