From all accounts, this years British Fashion Awards was quite a night. The evening, which topped off the 25th anniversary celebrations for London Fashion Week, attracted an A-list line-up of celebrities, including Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer, Twiggy and Vivienne Westwood.

Victoria Beckham was in also attendance, showing some love for British fashion stating that: “I love British fashion. I love the way people in Britain will really push the envelope, and it’s always really exciting to see who’s going to be the young British designer”. Victoria, as canny as always, wore one of her own creations at the event, and looked stunning. A great walking advertisement for her fashion line.

The highly publicised London 25 Award, which went to public vote to recognise the “individual who embodies the spirit of London”, was given to Kate Moss (no shock there then!). Christopher Bailey walked away with the “Designer of the Year” award for the second time, winning it previously in 2005. Georgia Jagger, daughter of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall, was named “Model of the year”, beating off stiff competition in the form of Daisy Lowe and Rosie Huntington Whiteley. I would have preferred it if Daisy had of won as I think her look is far more interesting but that’s just my opinion.

My heart does go out to the fabulous Karen Elson, who took a tumble off stage and fell into the orchestra pit when presenting the “Isabella Blow Award”. Afterwards, Karen declared that:”I am the clumsiest person on this earth. I cannot believe I just did that.” Keep your head up Karen and laugh it off – these things happen to the best of us.

THE PRINCE’S RAINFORESTS PROJECT MOST FASHIONABLE SUPPORTER LAUNCHES HER RED LABEL SHOW, FROGGIE STYLE

Fashion industry icon and enthusiastic environmentalist Dame Vivienne Westwood launched her Red Label Spring/ Summer collection at London Fashion Week with a special kind of green show…

In support of The Prince’s Rainforests Project, Dame Westwood dedicated her show and models to the humble frog, the symbol of rainforests and ambassador for the rainforests project. Vivienne also designed a frog that has been created and decorated by her studio. The fibre-glass frog model featured a design of hand-prints to demonstrate that we all have a role to play to helping tackle climate change so we all need to roll our sleeves up and get our hands dirty! This frog model, which stands at 70cm tall, appeared in her Red Label catwalk show on Sunday, with her models also wearing frog accessories incorporated in her designs.

Dame Westwood is an out-spoken advocate of The Prince’s Rainforests Project and asked that all guests to her show add their voice in support of rainforest protection. Vivienne supported the PRP in asking everyone to give their name, to show the world leaders gathering in Copenhagen for crucial climate change talks this December, that they must take action and that there is a public will for them to do so. Getting involved with the campaign is easy – simply visit www.rainforestSOS.org and sign up, or text SOS and your full name to 60777*.

The Prince’s Rainforests Project (PRP) was established in October 2007 by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to develop consensus as to how the rate of rainforest destruction might be slowed. Rainforests regulate rainfall, preserve biodiversity and, most importantly, store vast amounts of carbon. Tropical deforestation is a major cause of greenhouse gas emissions and the burning of the rainforests produces more carbon emissions per year than the entire global transport sector. Without tackling this problem it will be impossible to avoid catastrophic climate change.

London Fashion Week has celebrated it’s 25th Anniversary with some amazing shows. My favourites so far have been Luella, Vivenne Westwood’s Red label and PPQ.

Luella’ Autumn/Winter 2009 line is a lot harsher round the edges then usual. When I think of Luella I think of girlie, ditsy prints, lady like tweeds and prom dresses. There were some signature notes but the overall collection was sharper and a little grungier; beanies teamed with prom dress; military caps teamed with fur capes. The only negative note I have about the show was the use of Pixie Geldof as a model, in one word – WHY???

Vivienne Westwood’s diffusion line, Red Label, was influenced heavily by all things old England; school uniforms, tartan prints, tie stripes – the palate used was taken straight from the union jack, pops of vibrant reds and blues throughout. The collection wasn’t as theatrical as the main line but it was very funky and extremely wearable – any of these looks could be taken straight off the catwalk and worn in the real world (I need to have a pair of her skinny tartan trousers).

PPQ also didn’t disappoint; the arty collective used an array of colour throughout their show. Block colour hosiery teamed with clashing jumper dresses, stripes and pussy bow collars. They seemed to take their inspiration from medieval court jesters, but the effect sure had impact.
